Among the diverse array of carnivores, the giant anacondas, sabre-toothed tigers, flightless 'terror birds', and sebecids stood out. Mammalian carnivores alone could not have controlled the population of these megaherbivores, given the immense biomass they supported. This is where the giant crocodylians stepped in, becoming the primary megafaunal hunters of their time.
